Saudi Arabia Pavilion - Expo 2025 Osaka | Creative Direction

Creative Direction for an Immersive Film Installation at the Saudi Pavilion

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka is more than architecture it’s a large-scale immersive experience telling a nation’s story on the global stage.

Working with the team at Squint/Opera, inside the landmark pavilion designed by Foster + Partners, I served as Creative Director for the Evolving Cities gallery one of the pavilion’s central immersive environments.

At its core are three synchronised panoramic films unfolding from sunrise to nightfall across seven Saudi cities, exploring architecture, culture, sustainability and rapid urban transformation. The films are presented inside a sculptural gallery environment shaped by animated carved walls and tactile stone installations, surrounding visitors with a 360-degree cinematic landscape.

Filming Across Saudi Arabia

Over five weeks of production we travelled across Saudi Arabia capturing landscapes, cities and communities whose stories shaped the narrative of the gallery.

From historic streets to rapidly evolving urban skylines, the films explore the rhythm of life across the Kingdom — the people, architecture and environments shaping its future.

The project brought together a large international team of filmmakers, editors, CG artists, sound designers and immersive specialists working together to create a unified cinematic experience.

From Film to Immersive Installation

During post-production I worked closely with editors, CG artists and immersive designers to shape the final films and integrate them into the gallery environment.

The installation required precise coordination with AV and projection-mapping teams to align the films across the gallery’s almost 360-degree projection space, synchronising image, sound and architecture into a single immersive experience.

Expo 2025 Osaka

The finished installation now forms part of the Saudi Arabia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, welcoming millions of visitors from around the world.

Recognised by Dezeen as one of the Top 10 standout pavilions at Expo 2025, the project has already welcomed more than three million visitors.

An ambitious and collaborative production and an extraordinary project to be part of.
